An Open Letter from BFF Director, Amylia Grace Bergholz

Have you ever noticed how most of us don't care too much about something until it impacts us directly? As a Type I diabetic for 21 years, finding a cure for diabetes is close to my heart. But odds are someone you love has been affected by diabetes, too. Over 220,000,000 people worldwide have diabetes, and Type II is one of the fastest growing disease today. A cure is coming, but we aren't there yet. The worldwide diabetes community needs your help.

This is why we've dedicated ourselves to helping fund a cure for diabetes. 2011 marks our four year raising awareness and thousands of dollars for diabetes research. Not a single penny donated goes to overhead or operating costs.

As a bonus, every dollar donated will be matched in kind by my dad and BFF founder, Rick Bergholz, father of twins with Type I diabetes, and who has also lost a brother to the disease. He has committed to donating one dollar from his own pocket for each dollar you donate. It's a cause close to his heart. And mine. And giving an extra dollar out of his own pocket for each one donated is his way of saying thank you for caring, and doing what you can to help raise awareness and help find a cure. Before another child is lost.

I know times are tough, but we must try to do our part, in whatever ways we can. Every little bit helps. We can't do it without you.
